Fuzhen Temple
Fuzhen Temple, an ancient architectural complex built on a 60-degree steep slope of Lion Peak on Wudang Mountain, is praised by modern architects as a classic example of architecture utilizing steep terrain. Backed by Lion Mountain, it is flanked by Tianchi Waterfall on the right and the plank road of the Eighteen Bends on the left. From afar, it resembles a lotus emerging from water; up close, it looks like a magnificent fortified city. Ancient architectural masters ingeniously utilized the mountain’s topography, not only creating a site covering 16,000 square meters but also constructing over 200 halls and rooms, forming famous landscapes such as “Four Gates in One Li,” “Nine-Bend Yellow River Wall,” “One Pillar Supporting Twelve Beams,” and “Ten Miles of Osmanthus Fragrance.” The Taizipo Scenic Area includes attractions such as Huilong Temple, Mozhen Well (Chunyang Palace), Laojuntang, and Baxian Temple. The ancient architectural complex of Taizipo was meticulously designed based on the story of Zhenwu’s cultivation. Major scenic spots here include the exquisitely shaped well pavilion of Mozhen Well, “Orthoceras”—a Paleozoic marine invertebrate fossil, and murals depicting “Zhenwu’s Cultivation”; Tianchi Waterfall cascading down a hundred zhang, Dilei Pool, the “One Pillar Supporting Twelve Beams” in Wuyun Building, osmanthus trees, and the Nine-Bend Yellow River Wall at Taizipo; the ancient paths of the Upper and Lower Eighteen Bends fluttering like ribbons, oddly shaped rocks in Jiudu Gorge, and the steep and magnificent Yuxu Rock.
